The Post Office ‘Horizon’ IT case was arguably one of the biggest scandals to rock the UK in modern history. Innocent people lost their freedom, their livelihoods, and their reputations, finding themselves at odds with one of the oldest, most established organisations in the country with seemingly little avenue for recourse or vindication. Those of you who stayed abreast of the news at the time, or those who watched the ITV docudrama ‘Mr. Bates vs. The Post Office’ will be familiar with the imposing figure of Patrick Green, KC. His resounding victory in court and his willingness to stand up for the ‘common man’ made him a hero not only to the sub-postmasters he represented, but to every member of the British public who values the concept of justice and champions the underdog.
