Membership Terms & Conditions
Introduction
United Medical Associate Professionals (UMAPs) is an organization dedicated to serving Medical Associate Professionals (MAPs) and honorary members from the medical community. These terms and conditions outline the rights and responsibilities of UMAPs and its members.
Definitions
UMAPs: United Medical Associate Professionals
Member: Any individual who has successfully enrolled in UMAPs and meets the eligibility criteria.
Services: The benefits and resources provided by UMAPs to its members.
Subscription Period: The 12-month duration of membership before renewal.
Service Membership: A category of membership that provides access to UMAPs’ professional services and the trade union arm but does not include voting rights within UMAPs LTD.
Professional Membership: Entitles members to be operating members of the trade union and relevant networks, effective when the trade union is formed.
Founding Membership: A legacy non-voting membership taken out by original members who participated in the formation of UMAPs LTD and the subsequent efforts to form a trade union. Founding members receive the benefits of both Professional and Service memberships.
Corporate Executive Membership: Granted to members who operate with voting rights in UMAPs LTD, managing the corporate division of the company. Corporate Executive members also receive the benefits of both Professional and Service memberships.
Membership Eligibility
Membership is open to Medical Associate Professionals (MAPs) and honorary members from the medical community. Eligibility criteria include professional qualifications and adherence to the ethical standards outlined by UMAPs.

Professional Indemnity Insurance: Available to those who take out a service with it included or as a bolt-on option.
Employment Dispute Cover: Built into all current memberships, with bolt-on options available for legacy plans.
Education Platform Access: Ongoing access to CPD, seminars, and courses through our Education Platform.
Industry Updates: Regular updates on the latest developments and trends in the medical field.
Professional Advocacy and PR: Representing the role of Medical Associate Professionals to stakeholders and employers, including collective bargaining efforts.
Online Secure Community: Access to a secure online community for networking and support among members.
Development and Voting Rights: Opportunities to participate in development initiatives and voting rights within the trade union arm of UMAPs (when formed).
Membership Fees and Payment
Fee Structure: Membership fees are structured as an annual fee broken into monthly installments.
Payment Methods: Payments are made online via credit or debit card through our payment processor, Stripe.
Billing Cycles: Fees are billed monthly as part of the annual membership fee structure.
Refund Policy: Membership fees are non-refundable once paid.
Membership Types
Service Membership:
Provides access to UMAPs’ professional services and the trade union arm.
Members do not have voting rights within UMAPs LTD.
Entitles members to “Professional Membership” within the trade union, allowing them to be operating members of the trade union and relevant networks (effective when the trade union is formed).
Professional Membership:
Entitles members to be operating members of the trade union and relevant networks.
Includes voting rights within the trade union arm (effective when the trade union is formed).
Founding Membership:
A legacy non-voting membership taken out by original members who participated in the formation of UMAPs LTD and the subsequent efforts to form a trade union.
Founding members receive the benefits of both Professional and Service memberships.
Corporate Executive Membership:
Granted to members who operate with voting rights in UMAPs LTD, managing the corporate division of the company.
Corporate Executive members receive the benefits of both Professional and Service memberships.
Membership Duration and Renewal
Duration: Membership lasts for 12 months from the date of enrollment.
Automatic Renewal: Membership will automatically renew at the end of the 12-month period unless canceled by the member.
Renewal Notifications: Members will receive a renewal notification 30 days prior to the end of the subscription period.
Cancellation and Termination
Members of UMAPs have the right to cancel their membership renewal at any time by contacting UMAPs through our dedicated email address, info@umaps.org.uk. The cancellation will take effect at the end of the current 12-month membership period. Members will continue to enjoy all the benefits and services of their membership until the end of this period. Upon reaching the renewal date, the membership will not automatically renew, and no further charges will be applied.
UMAPs reserves the right to terminate membership for breach of terms or unethical behavior. Members will be notified in writing of the termination.
Changes to Membership Terms
UMAPs reserves the right to modify these terms and conditions at any time. Members will be notified of any changes via email at least 30 days prior to the changes taking effect.
Use of Services
Members must use UMAPs services in a manner consistent with professional and ethical standards. Any misuse of services may result in termination of membership.
Privacy and Data Protection
UMAPs is committed to protecting member privacy. Personal data will be collected, used, and protected in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Members consent to the collection and use of their data as described in the Privacy Policy.
Confidentiality
UMAPs is committed to maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality. Members must agree to keep all proprietary and confidential information shared by UMAPs secure and not disclose it to any third parties unless expressly permitted by UMAPs for the purpose of distribution. This includes, but is not limited to, discussions, documents, and any other information obtained through participation in UMAPs activities and services. This ensures a safe and open environment where members can share and discuss freely.
Code of Conduct
Members are expected to adhere to the highest standards of professionalism and respect in all interactions within the UMAPs community. Any behavior that is deemed inappropriate, discriminatory, or harmful to other members or the organization will not be tolerated and may result in termination of membership.
Ethical and Morality Clause
UMAPs is dedicated to upholding the highest ethical and moral standards. Members agree to be bound by the following guiding principles when dealing with complex decisions that affect the wider public, colleagues, and members:
Is this in the best interests of the patient?
Is this in the best interest of the profession?
Is this in the best interest of the members?
These guiding principles ensure that UMAPs actions are always aligned with the core values of integrity, professionalism, and member-centric service.
Notification of Issues
Members recognize the requirement to notify UMAPs at the earliest possible moment of any issue that will require its intervention or services. Prompt notification is crucial to ensure that UMAPs can provide the necessary support without being disadvantaged in its position to assist members effectively.
Emergency Support
In the event of an emergency requiring immediate support, members should first contact the MDS service. Members must then notify UMAPs at the earliest possible time by emailing info@umaps.org.uk. This ensures that UMAPs can provide timely and effective assistance.
Feedback and Complaints
UMAPs values the feedback and concerns of its members. Members are encouraged to provide feedback or lodge complaints by contacting us at feedback@umaps.org.uk. All feedback and complaints will be reviewed promptly, and appropriate actions will be taken to address any issues raised.
Use of Online Community
Members are encouraged to participate in the UMAPs online community to share knowledge, support each other, and network. Members must:
Respect the confidentiality of information shared within the community.
Refrain from posting inappropriate, offensive, or harmful content.
Follow all community guidelines and rules as provided by UMAPs.
Consent to Communications
By becoming a member of UMAPs, you consent to receive communications from UMAPs regarding membership benefits, updates, and other relevant information. Members can manage their communication preferences by contacting us at info@umaps.org.uk.
Intellectual Property
All intellectual property, including trademarks and materials provided by UMAPs, remain the property of UMAPs. Members are granted a limited license to use these materials for professional purposes only.
Dispute Resolution
Any disputes arising from these terms and conditions will be resolved through mediation or arbitration, as agreed upon by both parties. The governing law for any disputes will be the laws of England and Wales.
Liability and Indemnification
UMAPs’ liability is limited to the membership fees paid by the member. Members agree to indemnify UMAPs against any claims or damages arising from their use of services.
Communication and Notices
UMAPs will communicate with members primarily through email. Notices will be sent to the email address provided by the member.
Governing Law
These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
Miscellaneous
Entire Agreement: These terms and conditions constitute the entire agreement between UMAPs and the member.
Severability: If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in effect.
Waiver: Failure to enforce any provision of these terms does not constitute a waiver of that provision.
