The United Medical Associate Professionals (UMAPs) is proud to announce the successful formation of its trade union, marking a historic moment for the Medical Associate Professions (MAPs).
At an Extraordinary General Meeting held on Sunday, 1st December 2024, Founding Members voted to adopt the UMAPs Trade Union Rule Book, approve interim National Executive Committee (NEC) appointments, and authorise the union’s registration with the Certification Officer.
UMAPs will now move forward as a formally recognised trade union, dedicated to defending and representing Physician Associates (PAs) and Anaesthesia Associates (AAs) across the UK.
Stephen Nash, General Secretary, stated:
“This is a monumental step for MAPs. Over the last year, we have worked tirelessly to protect and represent our members, and tonight’s vote demonstrates the collective strength of our community. UMAPs is now positioned to advocate more effectively for the rights and interests of PAs and AAs, ensuring their voices are heard across the healthcare landscape.”
Key Milestones Achieved:
- Adoption of the UMAPs Trade Union Rule Book
- Approval of NEC interim appointments
- Authorisation to register UMAPs as an official trade union
UMAPs will continue to work collaboratively with stakeholders while remaining steadfast in its mission to defend the interests of MAPs.
